Frequently asked questions

What is a certified legal document preparer ("document preparer")?

A document preparer is a non-attorney individual who can prepare or provide legal documents to the public without the supervision of an attorney. Additionally, a document preparer can give general legal information; however, WE CAN NOT render legal advice at any time.

Are document preparers costly?

Document preparer rates will vary from company to company based on the service provided and the company you decide to hire. However, I can assure you our prices are usually substantially less and more affordable than hiring an attorney. Document preparers generally request a flat fee (regardless of the time spent on the requested service) or provide a payment arrangement option to accommodate the client.

What are the reasons to hire a document preparer?

Document preparers can assist an individual with a variety of things. One of the main reasons people inquire is our ability to simplify the legal process for you. We understand to the average person, legal terminology can become confusing and, quite frankly, give you a headache. On average, a person spends more time deciphering a document before completing it. Another reason is everyone doesn’t have thousands of dollars to toss away for a retainer fee. If you’re looking for quality assistance with completing your legal documents while avoiding spending your savings, then a document preparer is your best choice. At Precise Legal & Notary, we pride ourselves on producing quality work at a very affordable price. If you need legal advice, Krystle has personal relationships with several attorneys and will refer you to one if required.

What is a paralegal?

A paralegal works directly under the supervision of an attorney and is employed through a law firm, governmental agency, or corporation. Paralegals typically perform tasks/duties that require extensive knowledge of the law and legal procedures.

What is a freelance paralegal/administrative assistant?

Both provide services on a contract basis. Law firms, solo attorneys, and businesses would benefit from hiring a person of this nature to complete projects or bring them in on an as-needed basis. By hiring a freelance paralegal/administrative assistant, a law firm/business will have the ability to be more in control of the quality of work they receive while avoiding the cost of hiring a temp service or paying employment taxes if you hire a W-2 employee.

What is the difference between a notary public and notary signing agent?

In simplest terms, a notary public will witness a signature(s) and screen the document's signers to verify their identity. Notary publics also verify identification and ensure the signer is willing to sign without duress or intimidation, along with the person being aware of the contents of the document/transaction. A Notary public will often charge per signature. In Arizona, a notary public can charge less than the $10 fee or up to $10 per signature or not charge a fee at all. A Notary Public can perform the following notarial acts when requested: administer oaths and affirmations, perform jurats, and perform copy certifications.

A company typically hires a notary signing agent as a 1099 contractor to ensure that the borrower's real estate loan documents are properly executed, notarized, and returned for processing. Completing and notarizing the loan documents will enable the loan to be funded. Signing agents receive specialized training to handle/notarize loan documents.

What is the purpose of the Limited Liability Company "LLC"?

An LLC provides liability protection for the members and managers. Forming an LLC for your business will protect the owners' personal assets from business liability.
